Cave and truck work...

Slowly making progress on our mobile cave.  The cap is off to be cleaned.  While off I plan to reseal the windows and add a new lock to the rear glass.  Wiring plans are still in my head.
Today the cap got new lifts for the rear glass and the old lock drilled out.  The Jeep got a new driver side window crank, repaired plate lights and "patched" the rear bumper.    The bumper got rear ended last month.

Accommodations, where will we stay?

We hope to find as much primitive camping sites as we can, spend a few nights with family scattered across the country and an occasional nice motel with hot showers and a pool would also hit the spot.   Of course there is also the always RV friendly Sprawl-Mart parking lot.

While cruising craigslist we were fortunate to find a truck cap for the Jeep Comanche.  It is a fiberglass LEER cap with screened side slider windows.  Not an easy find as the Comanche bed is 7'4" long, an uncommon size on smaller trucks.  In fact as we understand only two trucks could fit under this cap,  Comanches and Chevy S-10's with the long bed.  So our 'primitive' camping will be under the cap rather than in a tent.

How to get there from here.....

We have chosen our 1986 Jeep Comanche as our camping/traveling rig.  I kind of like the idea of crossing the country in a 25 year old truck.  There is some work to be done to get it ready for such a long trip, but that is part of the fun.

Tyler and I have decided to start a blog chronicling our cross country trip  We hope to post updates and photos along the way.  That said, we are still planning and have yet to choose our means for posting from the road.
